Bhadrak: A woman was allegedly abducted and gang raped by two unidentified persons while she was returning from a temple after attending Mahashivratri celebrations under Bhandaripokhari Police limits in Bhadrak district on Friday night.

According to reports, while the woman was returning from the local Shiv Temple after attending special rituals on the occasion of Mahashivratri, two men allegedly overpowered the woman and took her to an isolated location. The miscreants raped her in turns and fled after she raised an alarm for help.

Narrating her ordeal, the survivor said, "I had gone to the temple to attend the rituals as it was Mahashivratri. However, two men, whom I could not identify, followed me while I was returning home at around 11 PM. They forcibly took me to an abandoned house by gagging me and raped me one after the other."

"Bhandaripokhari Police rescued me at around 12 AM after learning about the incident from the locals," she added.

The survivor was admitted at Bhandaripokhari Community Health Centre for treatment. Her condition is stated to be critical, informed sources.

Police have started an investigation in the matter after registering an FIR.

"We have registered an FIR based on the allegation of the woman," informed Sanatan Sahu, IIC, Bhandaripokhari Police Station.
