Man detained for attempting to rape minor girl in Angul

Angul: An elderly man has been detained for allegedly allegedly attempting to rape a five-year-old girl at Bantala  area in the district yesterday. According to reports, the accused allegedly took the minor to an under construction house and attempted to rape her.

According to reports,  the minor was playing with her friends when the accused took her to the location by luring her with chocolates.

The matter came to light after the girl's family launched a search operation after she did not return home for long. Later, they found her along with the accused and subsequently lodged a police complaint in connection with the incident.

Basing on the complaint filed by the family, police detained the accused and further investigation has started.

Resentment is now brewing among people as this is the second instance where a minor girl was subjected to sexual assault in the district.

On January 20, a 12-year-old girl was brutally stoned to death after rape and the incident then had sparked tension with irate locals resorting to road blockade in protest.
