Shame! 17-month-old girl raped by relative in Odisha's Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In a shameful incident, a 17-month-old girl was allegedly raped by one of her relatives in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. The incident took place in Khunta area of the district on Friday.

As per the police complaint filed by the baby girl's parents at Khunta Police Station, the accused sexually assaulted the child while she was playing with him.

The matter came to light when some locals found the accused raping the minor girl and tried to catch hold of him. But, the accused managed to escape. Later the locals informed the girl’s parents about it.

While the baby girl has been admitted to the local hospital in a critical condition, cops have started an investigation into the incident following the complaint.

Speaking about the matter, Swapnaranjan Mahapatra, a police official of Khunta Police Station, said, "The accused used to take the baby with him on the pretext of helping her play and move around the village. However, he used to rape her when he was alone with her. He fled the village when locals tried to nab him after learning about the rape. We have sent the child for a medical test and search operation to arrest the accused is on."
