'Rape attempt' on Odisha girl sitting on dharna

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested a youth for allegedly trying to rape a girl sitting on dharna near Lower PMG road in Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, the girl along with her sister hailing from Lamtaput area in Koraput district, was sitting on dharna when one Kalu Nayak allegedly tried to rape her yesterday night. The siblings were camping at the protest venue when Nayak allegedly barged into their tent and tried to outrage the modesty of the girl.

However, one of the siblings managed to escape and informed the police personnel camping nearby.

Soon, cops of Capital Police Station reached the spot and nabbed Nayak. Later, he was forwarded to court today.

"He (Nayak) barged into my tent, slept beside me and tried to rape," alleged the girl.

The two girls have been staging protests for the last several days demanding justice over some issues.
