Mayurbhanj: Two jail warders were placed under suspension after an undertrial prisoner escaped while undergoing treatment at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital at Baripada today.

The accused, identified as Kanhu Charan Marandi, was lodged at Baripada circle jail since November 25 after he was arrested in connection with a gangrape case. He was admitted to the hospital over some health issues on December 6.

According to sources, Marandi went to the washroom on the pretext of relieving himself but escaped by jumping out of the window.

"He fled after breaking the glass window of the toilet. A case has been registered by Baripada Circle jail officials against the accused," Inspector-in-charge of Baripada police station Ashok Kumar Nayak said.
