Businessman abduction bid: Police recover CCTV footage
Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has recovered the CCTV footage of six miscreants trying to kidnap a businessman from Nayapalli area of the State capital on Friday.
In the CCTV footage, the miscreants can be seen getting down from a SUV and abducting the businessman Sibasundar Das, who was sleeping in his car parked in front of his house in IRC Village area on Friday night. He was kidnapped at gun point.
As per the written complaint of Das, the miscreants abducted him along with his car. However, their abduction bid was foiled after both the vehicles were hit by a truck from behind on Vanivihar overbridge while he was being taken towards Rasulgarh area.
The businessman, who was sleeping inside his car following a quarrel with his wife, had claimed that the miscreant driving the car had applied sudden brake after spotting a RTO team checking on the national highway. Later, a truck dashed against both the vehicles. The abductors immediately fled the scene leaving the vehicles and Sibasundar on the spot.
Speaking to media persons, Sibasundar said, “The abductors kidnapped and were probably taking me to some secluded place, but in the meantime, our vehicle met an accident and I escaped.” Asked about if he knew the identity of any accused, he said that they were complete strangers to him.
Later, a team of Saheed Nagar Police arrived at the spot and rescued the businessman and initiated a probe into the matter. They also recovered a mauser, a country-made gun and a live bullet from the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the city police have intensified its investigation into the matter and are trying to identify the miscreants based on the CCTV footage. They are also ascertaining whether it was a case of business rivalry as Sibasundar is engaged in Bitcoin business and online trading.
Police said that the number plate of the SUV in which the miscreants had arrived at the spot turned out to be that of a two-wheeler and its owner is now being interrogated.
“We have got several valuable information that will help us trace the miscreants involved in the crime soon,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu.
