Police arrest cattle smuggler in Bhadrak

Bhubaneswar/Bhadrak: The Commissionerate Police today arrested one Sheikh Tajuddin alias Rajan on charges of cattle smuggling and possessing illegal gun in Bhadrak. He was arrested along with his associate and was later forwarded to court.

A few months ago, a gun was recovered from one of the vehicles of Rajan during police checking in Jagatpur area. However, the accused was able to deceive the police and flee from the spot.

“The accused (Rajan) and his associates were wanted in multiple cases registered at Jagatpur Police Station. In one of the cases, a weapon was recovered from a vehicle during police checking,” Cuttack DCP Akhileshwar Singh said.

On January 10, Jagatpur police had seized a vehicle used for cattle smuggling and later found that Rajan was involved in the incident, sources said.

Later, acting on a tip-off, the Commissionerate Police formed a special team and raided the hideout of the accused in Bhadrak and arrested him.

As per reports, multiple criminal cases are pending against Rajan at Jagatput Police Station.

The inter-state cattle smuggling racket was exposed after the arrest of gangster Tito and his associate Batu Pani by the Crime Branch on August 23 last year.
