Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Odisha Crime Branch arrested two persons from New Delhi on charges of online fraud. The accused, identified as Binod Kumar and Sanjeeb Kumar, had allegedly duped a Baripada resident of Rs 87 lakh.

Earlier, the accused were produced before the Patiala court in Delhi on February 1. The court today allowed the Crime Branch to take the accused on a 5-day transit remand. Official sources said, the duo will be produced before Baripada SDJM court tomorrow.

According to sources, the accused impersonating as a foreign national in the name of Christie Dawson had befriended with the victim through a social networking website last year.

Later, the accused tricked the complainant from Baripada, Tapan Kumar Dash, to pay money in different bank accounts by claiming that Christie Dawson was detained  by the Customs Department with 3 lakh pounds at Delhi airport.

During investigation it was found that the two accused, Binod Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar had duped Tapan by fabricating the story of detention with an intention of cheating.

Both the accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and section 66c and 66D of Information and Technology Act, 2000.
