Koraput: In what was initially believed to be an ‘accidental death’ turned out to be a murder. Such twist in the death of a woman became the talk of town after police today arrested the husband of the deceased.

The shocking incident has been reported from Bamini village under Jeypore Sadar Police Station limits in Koraput district. The body of the deceased woman, Dumuni, was exhumed today in presence of two SDPOs, additional SP and magistrate.

Claiming that his wife had died after she accidentally fell down, the accused Ramesh Bag had buried her in the village graveyard yesterday. Only after Dumuni’s family members alleged that she was murdered, police today exhumed her body and arrested Ramesh.

It is alleged that Ramesh stoned his wife to death following a quarrel over Rs 300. Earlier, Ramesh had handed over the money to his wife and on learning that Dumuni had spent the money in buying some household articles; Ramesh got infuriated and hit her with a stone leading to her death.

“The brother of the deceased alleged that Ramesh had attacked his sister after she spent the money on January 2. Later, without informing anybody, Ramesh buried her body in the graveyard,” said Utkal Ranjan Das, Additional SP Koraput.
