Sonepur: In a bizarre incident, a man was detained for allegedly slapping the sub-inspector (SI) of Binika police station. The detainee has been identified as Panu Karna, a resident of Dendupadar village, in the district.

According to reports, the locals of Dendurpadar village had filed a complaint against Karna and other two persons with a joint public grievance redress forum. Acting on the complaint, the police called the trio to the police station for interrogation. However, during the questioning, Karna lost his cool and allegedly slapped the police SI.

However, Ghanashyam, the son of Karna said that the concerned SI was in civil dress and hence, his father could not identify the officer. "The SI, who was in civil dress, slapped my father and he also slapped the police officer back. My father was not aware that he is an SI," he said.

"The locals of Dendupadar village filed a complaint with the joint public grievance redress alleging that Karna blocked the drain in the village. Based on the complaint, Karna was called to police station and for questioning. He came and slapped an SI of the police station," said Gananath Thanapati, an Assistant SI at Bikina police station.

"A case has been registered against Karna and the Sonepur SDPO is investigating the matter," Thanapati added.
