Minor girl shot dead in Balasore; murder over love affair suspected

Balasore: A minor girl, who had reportedly gone missing some eight days ago, was shot dead at Arada bazaar area under Sahadevkhunta police limits in Balasore district on Saturday.

It is suspected that the 14-year-old girl, a student of Class IX was killed over love affair.

According to reports, girl had eloped with a youth, identified as Shahbad, some eight days ago. However, the youth yesterday informed the family members of the girl that she was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants.

Later, the family members of the girl rushed to the spot and informed the police. Sahadevkhunta police reached the spot and sent the girl’s body for postmortem.

“She had eloped with the youth last week and since then I was not in touch with her. He (Shahbad) yesterday called up to inform about my daughter’s death, “alleged the father of the girl.

As the girl also had injury marks on her head, hand and neck, a forensic team has started an investigation into the investigation.

Based on the complaint from the minor girl’s father, police have detained Shahbad and his father.

“The girl’s father has accused Shahbad and his father of being involved in the murder. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” informed Balasore SP Jugal Kishore Banoth.
