Cuttack/Balasore: An 11-year-old girl was rescued from the house of a sales tax officer in Cuttack today after it was alleged that the minor was sold off by a woman for Rs 50000.

One social activist from Balasore, Biswajeet Ghosh alleged that the minor girl is the daughter of one Baidhar Singh of Sambalpur and she was brought to Cuttack three years ago by a woman named Papiya Hashan in the name of providing education to her.

After bringing her to Cuttack, Papiya made the girl to stay at one of her relative's home. Later, the relative allegedly sold the girl to one sale tax officer of Nimasahi area in the city, informed Ghosh.

Ghosh also alleged that Papiya used to take Rs 1000 from the official on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, the president of Balasore CWC, Baghirathi Barik said that a complaint will be lodged in the name of the woman and the officer.

"The minor girl was rescued and we handed her over to her grandmother. An FIR will be filed in the police station against all involved," said Barik.
