Koraput: In a case of suspected suicide, a businessman was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his medicine store in Jayanagar area under town police limits in Jeypore of Koraput district on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Patnaik.

As per reports, Sanjay, the owner of Maa Banjaruni medical store in Jayanagar, allegedly committed suicide yesterday morning.

After receiving information, Jeypore Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Though there was no conclusive evidence on why Sanjay committed suicide, police recovered a suicide note from the shop in which the deceased had stated that he was constantly being harassed by the local drug inspector (DI).

Sanjay’s brother, Sanjit Patnaik, also levelled similar allegations and said, “He (Sanjay) had received a notice from the DI office for clearing some dues. He was under severe mental duress as they were threatening to cancel his license.”

“My brother has no fault still they were asking money illegally and harassing him. He couldn’t handle the pressure because of which he took the extreme step,” he added.

IIC of Jeypore police station, Baleswar Gidhi said, “We have sent the body for post-mortem and found a suicide note in the shop. The deceased has mentioned somebody’s name in the letter and inquiry will be done based on the evidences.”
