Man attempts to rape 12-yr-old niece, arrested

Cuttack: It seems that the awareness campaigns on the rising sexual assaults against minor girls have fallen on deaf years as police today arrested a person on charges of attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl in Banki of Cuttack district.

What was more shocking is that the accused happens to be the uncle of the minor girl.

As per the complaint lodged by the family members at the Banki police station, the incident occurred this morning when the girl had gone to the neighbour’s house. Finding no one at home, the accused allegedly tried to assault her sexually.

Later, basing on the complaint, police arrested the accused and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Banki IIC, Biswaranjan Sahu, said, “The guardian of the girl lodged a complaint at the police station that their neighbour attempted to rape her. We are investigating the case and have also arrested the accused and are interrogating him.”
