Balasore:  Illicit narcotics trade is now flourishing in Odisha’s Balasore district which has turned into a narcotics haven in the State. It is from Balasore that brown sugar is smuggled from neighbouring States including West Bengal and supplied to different parts of the State.

Launching a major crackdown, Sahadevkhunta Police seized 302 grams of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 30 lakh following raid near Luniajodi bridge. Three peddler including kingpin Sk Haider have been arrested in this connection, informed Balasore SP, B Jugal Kishore on Sunday.

Addressing a presser, Kishore informed that the racket was busted by the special team of Balasore Police.

“Earlier, father of Sk Haider was arrested on drugs peddling charges. The activities and movement of Haider were being monitored and a raid was launched after getting credible information,” said Kishore.

A senior police official informed that three mobile phones, two motorbikes and Rs 9 lakh cash have been recovered from the possession of the trio.
