Cuttack: A girl, who was allegedly kidnapped from a village in Cuttack, managed to escape from clutches of abductors while being trafficked to Surat in Gujarat.

The incident, which was reported from Gopalpur village under Banki police limits in Cuttack, came to light after the family members of the victim along with fellow villagers lodged a police complaint in this regard.

According to sources, the girl had gone to fetch water from a tube well near her house yesterday evening when four youths allegedly abducted her and brought her to Bhubaneswar. The abductors then took her to Bhubaneswar railway station and were subsequently taking her to Jatni railway station to send her to Surat by train when she managed to escape and reached her uncle's house in Kaipadar.

"The girl had gone to fetch water at around 6.30 pm yesterday. When she did not return home, her elder sister went near the tube well but found her missing. We searched till 2 am but could not trace her. Later, we lodged a complaint," Raghubati Nayak, a villager said.

He further said, "The girl called up her family and informed that she was kidnapped by four youths. While one auto-rickshaw driver was involved in the crime, three of the other accused hail from our village. They were taking the girl to Jatni railway station. On the way, the abductors went to have food when the girl managed to escape and reached her uncle's house in Kaipadar."

Based on the complaint, police have detained one person. "Our further investigation is on to nab other accused," said a police official.
