Sambalpur: In a major development, the SDJM court here has given permission to Sambalpur police to conduct a DNA test of the recovered skull suspected to be of Jayashree Mishra, who was murdered eight years back. The Sambalpur police had sought permission of the SDJM court to conduct the DNA test.
As per reports, the sample of the skull will be collected tomorrow for the DNA test and will be matched with the DNA of the Jayashree's children.
"The SDPO today informed that DNA test of all the siblings is required to be done. We have written a letter and given our consent to extend all cooperation," said Bijayini.
Speaking on the development, Town Police In-charge, Ramesh Dora said, "We have received court order to conduct DNA test of the skull and match it with the sample of the victim's children."
It is pertinent to mention here that the skull remains were exhumed on July 26 after police nabbed the prime accused Basant Panda on July 22, 2019. Panda confessed during interrogation and was subsequently arrested.
The development came after Jayashree’s daughter, Bijayani Mishra, who has been pursuing the case, insisted that her mother was killed. Bijayani had also alleged that no headway was made in the case while the officials of Town Police only registered a station diary after her mother went missing on October 13, 2011.
Though her family members had lodged a complaint at Town Police Station in this connection, no step was allegedly taken by the cops. Later, Bijayini filed a petition with the Director General of Police which reportedly forced the cops to carry out a fresh investigation.
