Cuttack: In a major crackdown on anti-socials, the Commissionerate Police arrested seven members of an inter-state gang of looters from the town today.

Sources said the city police had intensified patrolling while acting on a tip off about the movement of the dacoity gang in the city. A special squad of the police conducted raids at several spots and nabbed the members of the gang today.

Cops also seized cash of about Rs30,000, gold jewelries weighing more than 300 gram and 3 kg silver from their possession.

“The miscreants used to enter the houses by breaking the doors and commit dacoity at several areas in the city like Badambadi, Chauliaganj and Jagatpur. During interrogation they have also accepted their involvement in various inter-state dacoity incidents. Today we have arrested seven members of the gang including the two who used to mastermind the dacoities,” informed Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh.

"Twenty seven cases of dacoity were registered against them and all the miscreants are the natives of Kendrapara," Singh further added.
