Huge cache of illegal cough syrup seized; 4 detained

Bolangir: The Town Police today seized huge quantities of Corex syrup and detained four persons for illegally transporting the cough syrups in two trucks.

Acting on reports of cough syrup smuggling in the area, the Town Police conducted multiple raids at several places besides intensifying vehicle inspection drive to nab the drug peddlers.

Based on information about movement of suspicious vehicles through the town, a special team of police intercepted a truck which was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Bolangir and later also stopped another truck of Bolangir.

After inspection of both trucks, police found huge cache of cough syrup bottles stashed inside the vehicles. A total of four persons have been detained in connection with the case.

Police interrogation is underway to elicit more information about the detailed movement of consignment. A senior police official said that probe to establish whether the gang was operating independently or has links with any is ongoing.

Earlier on February 3, the Khariar Police seized nearly 480 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup from Arada area in Nuapada district and arrested four persons in this connection.

On January 25, the Komna police had busted a cough syrup smuggling racket in Nuapada district and arrested two persons involved in the racket.
