Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, Commissionerate Police toady busted a highway robbery gang and arrested two persons. The police have also seized a gun and a car bearing West Bengal registration number from the arrested persons.
According to sources, the gang was looking for costumers to sell a stolen car in the city when the police conducted a raid and nabbed them. However, three others of the gang managed to flee.

After preliminary investigation, police have found that the arrested are residents of Niali area and several cases at various police stations are pending against them. The members of the gang were targeting commuters on the national highway and robbing four-wheelers at gun point.

“The accused persons mainly target the highway commuters and snatch their cars at gun point. Two members of the gang have been arrested while others are on the run,” said Bhubaneswar DCP, Anup Sahoo.

On the other hand, the Smart City has witnessed two chain snatching incidents in the past two days.

In the first incident, unidentified miscreants snatched a gold chain from a couple in Rasulgarh area in which the couple also sustained critical injuries after a clash with the snatchers.

A similar incident was reported from Khandagiri, where miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman while she was on a morning walk.

“Three snatching incidents have been reported from three police stations in the capital city. Investigations are underway to nab the accused persons,” the DCP added.
