Berhampur: At least two police personnel sustained grievous injuries after they were attacked by a group of gamblers at Jhajipadia Street in Lochapada on the outskirts of Berhampur late Friday night.

According to sources, when a team of police raided their gambling den after getting a tip-off, a group of miscreants present at the den attacked the police team and ransacked a patrolling bike and a vehicle.

Two police personnel including a Sub-Inspector were injured in the attack following which police registered cases against the miscreants on charges of attempt to murder.

While 11 persons have been arrested so far in this connection, police also seized wooden sticks and cash worth over Rs 8,000 from the spot. Further investigation is underway.

It is pertinent to mention here that during Durga Puja, many such dens open in the nook and corner of Ganjam district, where gambling is considered a part of the Kumar Purnima celebrations.
