Bolangir: Police today arrested four persons including the prime accused in connection with the murder of one Srikant Nanda on August 8. The accused allegedly kidnapped and murdered Srikant over a Hanuman coin, informed police.

Addressing a press conference, Puintala Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Srimant Barik said that Srikant was abducted by one Suresh and his associates from the nearby village. Suspecting that Srikant’s father had Hanuman coin in his house, the miscreants wanted to make a deal with him in return of Srikant.

After kidnapping Srikant, the accused took him to Durgapali in an auto-rickshaw during when Srikant fell unconscious. Following this, the kidnappers threw him into Suktel river, added the SDPO.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by family members of the victim, police launched a probe and later fished out Srikant’s body from Suktel river.

While an investigation is underway, a manhunt has been launched to nab five others involved in the murder case.

“We don’t have any Hanuman coin at my house. I don’t know why the accused thought that we have a Hanuman coin,” said Dolamandi Nanda, brother of the deceased.
