Khurda: Police officials foiled a highway robbery bid, arresting five inter-district highway robbers from NH-16 near Ugratara temple in the district on Tuesday.

The arrested, identified as Mohammed Arif, Jamshed Shah, Mohammed Rijuam, Tukuna Behera and Muna Sahu, reportedly operated in Khurda, Puri and Nayagarh districts and are alleged to be involved in around 12 criminal cases.

“Earlier we had nabbed three miscreants, taking lead from them we have arrested rest of the two accused. We will further interrogate them after taking them in remand,” said Khurda SP Dipti Ranjan Ray.

As per reports, a Mauser, two magazines for bullets, 10 round of bullets, four motorcycles and two mobile phones were reportedly recovered from them.
