Firearms, explosives seized from jail inmate's house

Sambalpur: When police arrested him a few days ago for his alleged involvement in illegal sale of Corex cough syrup, no one had thought that he was more than just an illegal trader.

A team of the Sambalpur police today raided the house of Ranjan Maharana, who is lodged in jail, and to their surprise they found huge cache of guns, bullets, gelatine and detonators.

As per reports, police have also seized some explosives from his house.

"During the search, we found some swords, pistols, air rifles and also some explosives. We are investigating the case; will take appropriate steps in this regard," said Sambalpur SDPO, Mihir Panda.

Panda added that raids on Maharana's house were conducted in connection with his alleged involvement in many other cases registered against him.
