Cuttack: It seems that Cuttack is emerging as a hub for adulteration of various commodities as Commissionerate Police on Thursday busted a duplicate cement manufacturing unit in the city.

Six persons have been detained from the spot while the owner of the unit is absconding, sources said.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the fake cement unit was operating at Peer Bazaar area under Sadar police limits. The damaged cement stock was allegedly procured from different godowns and was being mixed with good stock, said sources.

After adding some chemicals, the cement was being repacked and sold in the name of reputed brands, police sources said.

It is for the second time that Commissionerate police has busted a duplicate cement manufacturing unit in the past two months. Earlier in May, an adulterated cement manufacturing factory was raided in Jagatpur Industrial Estate.

As many as 7,500 empty cement bags including 300 bags of different cement brands and machineries were seized during the raid.
