Decomposed body recovered, rape and murder suspected

Sundergarh: Decomposed dead body of a college going girl, suspected to have been raped and murdered, was recovered from a haystack in Malipada village under Lefripada police limits of Sundargarh district yesterday.

Deceased identified as Rasmita Meher, resident of Tikilipada village under Hemagiri police limits of the district, had gone missing since 20 June. A missing case was registered at Balingia police outpost on 25 June by her family members.

“The body was recovered in a highly decomposed sate. So, only after forensic reports we can reach any conclusion,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Sushant Kumar Mohanty said.

Meanwhile, a hand bag with some photos in it was seized by police officials from the spot.

The body later was sent for autopsy and police officials have started an investigation into the matter.
