Bhubaneswar: With the arrest of four persons, Commissionerate Police busted a criminal gang involved in looting cars by terrorizing drivers with the help of a toy gun.

The gang was busted by Khandagiri Police while investigating a theft of a car which belonged to a sub inspector. Two stolen cars were recovered from the robbers in Khurda district.

“We have arrested four persons –Krusha Chandra Das, Amarjit Pradhan, Maheswar Dalai and receiver Prabhat Sahu and we have recovered three vehicles. The gang was involved in one robbery and three snatching cases,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu.

Sahu informed that the gang was planning to dispose the car stolen from Khandagiri area to a person in Bhubaneswar. Senior police officials informed that the gang used to hire private cars and later decamp with the vehicles by terrorizing drivers with the help of a toy gun.

After stealing the cars, the gang used to change the registration number to avoid suspicion. Later, the vehicles were utilised either for illegal drugs trade or for committing other crimes.

Three stolen cars, some gold ornaments have been recovered while the gang members are being interrogated to ascertain their involvement in other car loot incidents, Sahu added.
