Khurda: Unidentified miscreants looted gold ornaments from a Kali temple in Gurujang area of the town late on Tuesday night.

According to reports, some miscreants allegedly looted 200 grams of gold jewellery and utensils worth lakhs of rupees after breaking open the lock of the temple late yesterday night. They also decamped with the temple donation box.

The matter came to light after the priest of the temple first witnessed the temple gates wide open with its broken locks lying on the ground in the wee hours today and informed the locals.

Soon after the incident, police along with a forensic team rushed to the spot and launched a probe into the incident.

A complaint has been registered and basing on the preliminary probe a special team will be formed to nab the culprits and recover the valuables of the temple deity, a police official said.

In last two months, temple loot incidents were reported from different places of the state. While miscreants had decamped with valuables worth lakhs of rupees looting three temples in Soro municipality of Balasore on November 17, burglars looted gold and silver ornaments from a temple at Sarkar pada in Kendrapara earlier this month.
