Brown sugar worth Rs 13 lakh seized in Khurda, 1 arrested

Khurda: The flying squad of Excise Department today busted a brown sugar racket by arresting a drug peddler from Samantarapur area in Khurda district today. The accused, identified as Sunil Dalai, used to smuggle brown sugar from Balasore and used to sell in different parts of the district.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Cuttack flying squad and Khurda excise department conducted simultaneous raid at Dalai's residence and seized contraband weighing 128 gram worth Rs 13 lakh from his possession.

"Basing on reports that there has been a rise in ganja and brown sugar smuggling, we seized the brown sugar following raids at Samantarapur area in the district. A special squad has been formed and we hope that, we will bust a major racket involved in the illicit narcotics trade" said inspector-in-charge of Excise department flying squad (Cuttack), Sarat Chandra Bhanja.
