Kendrapara: Police detained a clerk of Tehsil office on charges of being involved in a vehicle theft racket and seized two bikes from his possession on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off about involvement of the accused Biranchi Mahalik in illegal trading of stolen bikes, a team of cops reached the Tehsil office and detained Mahalik for interrogation. Later, the team conducted a raid at Mahalik’s residence and seized two bikes.

However, Mahalik denied his involvement in any such racket and stated he is unaware that the bikes which have been seized from his house were stolen ones.

“I haven’t done any crime. I have no idea that my bike is a stolen bike. I want police to find the facts and the real accused should be punished,” said Mahalik.

Police sources have claimed a bike lifting gang has been very active in Pattamundai , Rajnagar, Rajkanika and Aali area of Kendrapara district.

“We are interrogating him. Investigation is underway to nab other members of the gang,” informed Pattamundai IIC (Inspector-in-Charge) Pramod Malik.
