‘Bangladeshi gang’ behind series of robberies in Bhubaneswar!

Bhubaneswar: In what could arguably a broader security concern, a Special Squad of Delhi Police nabbed two Bangaladeshi criminals who were involved in two major robberies in Bhubaneswar. A team of Commissionerate Police has left for New Delhi to bring the arrested persons on remand.

Not only Bhubaneswar, the gang is also suspected to be involved in a series of robberies and dacoities in Delhi, Bengaluru and Goa.

The criminals have confessed to their involvement in two dacoities in Bhubaneswar and after getting information from Delhi Police counterparts, a team of Commissionerate Police has left for the national capital for additional probe.

“Delhi Police team has arrested a few people and during interrogation, it has come to fore that the criminals, who are Bangladeshi nationals, are involved in number of crimes in Bhubaneswar,” said Bhubaneswar DCP, Anup Sahoo.

According to reports, the criminals had looted cash and other valuables worth Rs 12 lakh from the house of a retired Army personnel Sudhakar Das at Kanan Vihar under Chandrasekharpur Police limits on February 26, 2019. Around 10 armed miscreants had barged into Das’ residence by breaking open the window. Later, the robbers looted cash and other valuables after tying up all the family members and taking a five-month-old baby hostage.

“The miscreants had tied up all the family members and looted cash and other valuables. We recently got informed that some criminals have been arrested by Delhi Police and I am hopeful that all the 10 criminals would be arrested now,” said Das.

On August 2, 2018, there was a similar dacoity at the residence of another retired Army personnel Naresh Panda in Infocity area. The criminals had looted cash and valuables worth Rs 26 lakh after attacking Panda and taking other family members hostage.

Though Commissionerate Police had collected CCTV footage in connection with both the incidents, it could not establish the identity of the culprits. Though in the Kanan Vihar robbery, the Commissionerate Police had stumbled upon Dhaka links, it could not make any tangible headway in the case.
