Cuttack: Six persons were today arrested in connection with the recent attack on Olatpur-based Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) Director Shakti Prasad Das.

Police sources said one Laxmidhar Mallick, who worked in the NIRTAR canteen as waiter, had orchestrated the attack along with another staff. The other accused have been identified as Bramhananda Bhoi alias Akash, Basir Khan, Ayub Khan, Sayab Saddam and Sushant Mallick.

“The prime accused Laxmidhar and Akash had planned the attack. The two staff had hired four professional criminals to terrorize the Director. The duo had paid the criminals Rs 35,000 for the job,” informed Cuttack (Rural) SP, Radha Binod Panigrahi adding that the duo were reportedly unhappy with the director as he had turned down their personal demands several times in the past.

One country-made gun, two bikes and five mobile phones have been recovered from the accused.

As per reports, SVNIRTAR’s Director Shakti Prasad Das was attacked by the miscreants when he was returning from office in his car on Wednesday. The miscreants hurled stones and bombs in which the car was badly damaged. Das had also sustained minor injuries in the attack.
