Angul: Throwing a challenge for police, armed robbers looted cash and gold ornaments from Indian Bank after taking employees and customers at gun point in Angul on Saturday. This is the second major bank dacoity incident to be reported in the last three months.

Earlier, six men armed with country-made pistols and other weapons had looted Rs 23 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over Rs 79 lakh from the Andhra Bank branch in the town on April 6.

According to reports three armed miscreants barged into the India Bank branch at Harimohuri chhak soon aftter the bank was opened for normal transaction at around 10:05 am today.

After taking the bank staff and customers hostage, the miscreants looted cash and gold ornaments. Three bank staff including branch manager has been injured in the attack by dacoits.

The fresh incident of loot has triggered resentment among people in Angul owing to poor security measures by bank authorities and failure of police in nabing the miscreants.

Senior police officials have reached the spot and have started investigation into the incident.Further details in connection with the loot are awaited.
