Kalahandi: A group of armed miscreants looted cash worth Rs 13 lakh and around 250 gms of gold ornaments from the house of a businessman at Bhainripali village under Jaipatna police limits in Kalahandi district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The matter came to light after the businessman, identified as Sourav Jain lodged a complaint in this regard today. Based on the complaint, police have launched a probe into the case.

According to sources, six robbers barged into Jain’s house at around 3 am and attacked him and his parents with iron rods. Later, the miscreants reportedly terrorised the family members with guns before fleeing with the cash and gold jewelleries within just 10 minutes.

Kalahandi SP B Gangadhar, personnel of Jaipatna police station, a dog squad and a forensic team visited the spot today morning and inquired into the case.

The rising cases of armed robbery have now posed a serious challenge before the district police. This is second incident of loot in Kalahandi in a span of one week. On Thursday, three armed miscreants looted Rs 6 lakh after killing a youth and injuring his father at Borguda village in Junagarh area.
