Rourkela: Instances of sexual violence against girl children continues unabated in Odisha as yet again a minor girl has allegedly been gang raped. Though the incident reportedly occurred on July 8, a complaint was lodged at the Biramitrapur police station on Monday after a video of the crime went viral on social media.

Sources said the girl was allegedly gang raped by 8-10 miscreants at Harpali Basti under Biramitrapur police limits of Sundergarh district. An investigation is underway.

Condemning the incident, office of Jay Panda tweeted, "SEVEN '7' Rape cases EVERY DAY in Odisha. Law and order is in shambles & this rising impunity in the State is by- product of lack of nat'l media attention and politicisation of police & politicians sheltering criminals."

In another incident, police recovered the decomposed body of a 15-year-old girl from a forestnear Gopalpur village under Hemagir Police limits in Sundergarh. It is suspected that the girl was brutally murdered after being raped and later dumped in the forest. As per reports, the family members of girl had lodged a police complaint after she went missing on July 20. Monday evening, after her decomposed body was recovered from the forests, police initiated an investigation.

Two days back in Angul, an eight-year-old girl was found lying unconscious in a garbage dump with injury marks on her body. The survivor, who hails from Maharashtra, was sleeping with her family members on the verandah of a shop near Angul bus stand when a miscreant allegedly abducted raped the girl before throwing her near garbage dump. It is suspected that the accused also tried to kill the girl after committing the crime.The girl has been admitted to the district hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, the pre-lunch session of Odisha Assembly has been washed out as Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the House till 3 PM today amid ruckus by Opposition of minor girl rapes and missing children cases.
