Bhubaneswar: Continuing its crackdown on illegal drugs trade, officials of Excise Department seized nearly 45 gms of brown sugar following a raid in Bhubaneswar today. The price of the seized contraband item is yet to be ascertained.

Acting on a tip off about a drug racket operating in Samantarapur area of the city, a special squad of the Excise officials raided the area and seized 45 gm brown sugar from two persons. The officials also recovered over Rs 1 lakh cash from the accused.

Earlier on June 27, a woman and her 19-year-old son were arrested for their involvement in drug trafficking in Bhubaneswar. A few days earlier, Excise department officials had raided Haladipadia slum in Laxmisagar area and seized brown sugar worth over Rs 10 lakh.

Official sources said Bhubaneswar and its twin city Cuttack is fast becoming a hub for illegal drugs trade.
