Sambalpur: Cracking down on a fake job racket, the Sasan police in Sambalpur arrested four persons today on charges of duping more than 250 youths on the pretext of providing jobs.

According to sources, the arrested persons used to dupe people of money by making false promises to provide jobs in different sectors including telecom, aviation and oil. They managed to lure the victims with fake government documents and were operating from an office in Bhubaneswar, said police.

Those who have been arrested on charges of job fraud are Santosh Kumar Sethi of Pattamundai, Ashis Kumar Pani of Patakura, Bidhan Pattanaik of Jayadev Vihar in Bhubaneswar and Manoj Pattanaik of Kantapali, Sambalpur, said police. Besides, Rs 55,000 cash, five mobile phones, two cars, a motorcycle and fake documents have been seized from their possession.

The accused had opened an NGO through which they used to attract unemployed youth.

“The arrested persons were claiming to provide jobs under the Swachh Bharat Mission,” said Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora.

Police began investigation after complaints were lodged in Sambalpur and are on the lookout for other persons involved in the racket, informed sources.
