Gajapati: Srikakulam Police recently busted a major gang allegedly involved in the manufacture and circulation of fake currency notes. Out of the five accused, three persons have been identified as residents from Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district of Odisha.

According to reports, fake notes in Rs 50 and Rs 200 denominations with a face value of Rs 1.48 lakh have been seized from their possession. Printer, scanner and other articles have also been seized.

Sources said the gang used to provide fake currency with a face value of Rs 50,000 against payment of Rs 10,000 to small traders and businessmen. Further investigation to ascertain more information regarding their area of operation is underway, police said.

Earlier on January 4, another gang was busted by the Srikakulam District Police for their involvement in circulating fake currency notes at the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border near Mathala village in Kotturu Mandal.
