10-member inter-state looters’ gang nabbed from Puri
Puri: In a major crackdown, a joint team of Puri and Jharkhand police nabbed a 10-member inter-state gang of looters from a hotel at Sea beach area here on Wednesday night. However, one of the looters managed to escape.
All the arrested have been identified as residents of Bishnupur area in Jamshedpur of Jharkhand district.
“The gang was involved in a mobile showroom robbery at Bishnupur in Jamshedpur that took place on July 29. Mobile phones and other articles worth Rs 30 lakh were looted from the showroom,” informed Mukesh Choudhary, a senior official of the Jharkhand police said.
Soon after the heist, the gang had come to Puri and planning a similar loot here, said the officer adding that the miscreants were involved in many other crimes across the country.
Acting on tipoff about the presence of the gang in the pilgrim town, the Jharkhand police with the help of Puri police raided the hotel and arrested the criminals. About 15 to 20 expensive mobile phones and various tools used by the miscrents during the loot were also seized by the police.
