Bhadrak: A girl was set ablaze by a youth after she allegedly turned down his marriage proposal in Basudebpur area of Bhadrak district last evening.
As per reports, the 19-year-old girl was on her way to home when the accused, Siddharth obstructed her and offered a love proposal. When the girl refused, Siddharth poured petrol and set her on fire.
With severe burn injuries, the girl was rushed to Basudebpur hospital, but later she was shifted to the Bhadrak hospital after her condition worsened.
“The girl has sustained 60%-70% burn injuries and her condition is still critical,” said Amarendra Jena, medical officer, Bhadrak hospital.
After receiving information, police reached the hospital to record the girl’s statement and began probe.
Family sources alleged that the youth used to harass her.
