Odisha Girl Raped Inside Car, Accused Detained

Kalahandi: Incidents of crime and sexual assault against women continues unabated in Odisha as yet another girl was allegedly raped by a youth, this time inside a car on the pretext of offering her lift.

The incident, which took place in Dharmagarh area of Kalahandi district on October 5, came to light today after the survivor lodged a complaint in this regard at Jaipatna police station. Based on the complaint, police have detained the accused.

According to the complaint, the girl was travelling to Jaipatna from Bhubaneswar in a bus on October 5. On the way, the bus halted at Bhawanipatna bus stop and the girl alighted from the bus to attend nature's call at the nearby Sulabh Souchalaya (toilet complex). When she returned to the bus stop, she was shocked to find that the bus had already left.

“I was sitting at the bus stop after missing the bus when the accused arrived at the spot in a car. He then asked me where I wanted to go. When I told him that I missed my bus to Jaipatna, he said he would go to Muthuguda and offered me a lift,” the girl told media.

“But instead of taking me to Jaipatna, he drove the car in another route and stopped the vehicle in an isolated place where he raped me. He then took me to his house and then to his room where he again raped me,”she alleged.

The girl said she was tight-lipped about the incident fearing social stigma and lodged the complaint today.
