Rayagada: Unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to the books of a meritorious class X girl student at J.K.Pur village under Chandili police limits of Rayagada district. According to reports, the miscreants barged into the house of the girl student, identified as Palak Prasad when her parents were away yesterday.

After holding Palak hostage at knife point, the miscreants allegedly ransacked her trophies and other awards and later set fire to all her books. The girl's parents alleged the involvement of school teachers behind the incident as they have been repeatedly harassing Palak and forcing her to take tuition.

“We had earlier brought such issues to the notice of the school authorities, but no action was taken. Some teachers have been harassing my daughter and changing answer sheets,” said Palak’s father, Sanjay Prasad.

Palak’s family claimed that the miscreants threatened to kill and warned her not to appear the upcoming board exams.

“They (miscreants) threatened to kill my daughter if she stays in Odisha and appears the board exams. The miscreants also told my daughter that they had mixed some pills in her water bottle during past exams so that she couldn't  score good marks ,” alleged Palak’s mother, Puspalata Chaurasia.

Rayagada additional SP, Ram Prasad Sahu informed that a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the student’s family.

“We are trying to ascertain the exact motive behind the incident and the miscreants will be nabbed soon,” said Sahu.
