The Health and Family Welfare department informed that the state during the last 24 hours has reported four fresh deaths which pushed Odisha's COVID-19 fatalities to 8,242. The latest COVID deaths have been reported from Nabarangpur (2), Jagatsinghpur (1) and Bolangir (1).

It said that a total of 4,50,375 deaths have been reported so far in the country, including 1,39,470 from Maharashtra, 37,866 from Karnataka, 35,754 from Tamil Nadu, 26,072 from Kerala, 25,088 from Delhi, 22,896 from Uttar Pradesh and 18,882 from West Bengal.

Nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Brazil (600,425), India (450,127), Mexico (281,121), Russia (210,673), Peru (199,615), Indonesia (142,560), the UK (137,945), Italy (131,228), Colombia (126,552), Iran (122,012), France (117,895) and Argentina (115,444).

Odisha Health Services Director, Bijay Mohapatra on Friday (Oct 8), warned against a rise in Covid-19 cases in the state during the month of December.

Salve admitted before the top court that what has been done by the state is not satisfactory and remedial action will be taken soon, and urged the bench to put the matter for hearing immediately after the Dussehra vacation.

Briefing on the Covid-19 situation in the Capital city, the Health Services Director said, “The rate of infection in Bhubaneswar has always been a cause for concern. Every day, 200 to 400 infections are being detected in the Capital City."
