The overall number of global COVID-19 cases has surpassed the 11 million mark, while the deaths have soared to more than 524,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
On Saturday morning, the total number of cases stood at 11,047,217, while the fatalities rose to 524,614, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
The US accounted for the world's highest number of infections and fatalities with 2,793,425 and 129,432, respectively, according to the CSSE. Brazil came in the second place with 1,539,081 infections and 61,884 deaths.
In terms of cases, Russia ranks third (666,941), and is followed by India (625,544), Peru (295,599), Chile (288,089), the UK (285,787), Spain (250,545), Mexico (245,251), Italy (241,184), Iran (235,429), Pakistan (221,896), France (204,222), Turkey (203,456), Saudi Arabia (201,801), Germany (196,780), South Africa (177,124), Bangladesh (156,391), Canada (106,962) and Colombia (106,392), the CSSE figures showed.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the UK (44,216), Italy (34,833), France (29,896), Mexico (29,843), Spain (28,385), India (18,213), Iran (11,260) and Peru (10,226).
US reports over 50,000 COVID-19 cases for 3rd consecutive day
The US, which currently accounts for the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the world, has registered more than 50,000 new infections for the third consecutive day amid a sudden surge in 40 out of the 50 states in the country.
According to the Johns Hopkins University, the US on Friday reported at least 51,842 new cases, taking the overall number of infections 2,793,425, while the death toll stood at 129,432.
The current worst-hit states of California, Arizona, Texas and Florida all posted record new cases this week.
Florida reported nearly 9,500 additional coronavirus cases on Friday, while Texas registered 7,555 new infections. Florida is averaging more new cases per day -- 7,870 -- than any other state.
Nearly two dozen states have paused their reopenings to combat the virus spread while others have taken extra measures to keep it out of their borders, said a CNN report.
New York, New Jersey and Connecticut issued a travel advisory that requires people arriving from eight states with high coronavirus rates to quarantine for two weeks.
The development comes as Americans were readying to mark the country's Independence Day on Saturday amidst the pandemic.
UK Covid-19 deaths rise to 44,131
Another 137 Covid-19 patients have died in Britain, bringing the total coronavirus-related death toll in the country to 44,131, the British Department of Health and Social Care said on Friday.
The figures include deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community, Xinhua reported.
As of Friday morning, 284,276 people have tested positive for the disease in Britain, a daily increase of 544, according to the department.
Meanwhile, a total of 10,120,276 tests of the novel coronavirus in the country till Friday morning, with 205,673 tests on Thursday, said the department.
Saudi Arabia's coronavirus cases surpass 200,000
Saudi Arabia's coronavirus cases have surpassed 200,000, officials said. A total of 4,193 new cases were reported, bringing the accumulated infections to 201,801, the Health Ministry tweeted.
The recoveries reached 140,614 with the registration of 2,945 new recovered cases. On Friday, the death toll rose to 1,802 with 50 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, Xinhua reported.
Meanwhile, the ministry announced on Friday that more than 100 virus-infected patients were treated through the blood plasma of recovered cases. The treatment is part of a nationwide medical study.
Pakistan reports 3,387 new COVID-19 cases
Pakistan reported 3,387 new coronavirus cases and 68 deaths during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the country to 225,283 and the death toll to 4,619, according to official figures on Saturday.
Most coronavirus cases have been reported from Sindh with 90,721 cases, followed by Punjab with 80,297 cases, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 27,506 cases, Islamabad 13,292 cases, Balochistan 10,717 cases, Gilgit-Baltistan 1,536 cases and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 1,214 cases.
In the last 24 hours, 3,387 new coronavirus cases and 68 deaths were reported in the country, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said.
During the same period, 11,469 COVID-19 patients have recovered. So far, 1,25,094 patients have recovered from the virus in Pakistan, it said.
The NCOC said 2,460 patients were in critical condition.
In the last 24 hours, 22,050 tests to detect coronavirus have been conducted, taking the total number of tests to 1,372,825.
Iraq confirms 2,312 new Covid-19 cases; 102 more deaths
Iraqi Health Ministry on Friday confirmed 2,312 new Covid-19 cases, as the total number of infections climbed to 56,020.
The ministry also confirmed 102 more deaths, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 2,262 in the country, Xinhua reported.
It also said that 1,688 people recovered during the day, bringing the total recoveries from the disease to 29,600.
The new cases were recorded after 12,176 testing kits were used across the country during the past 24 hours, and a total of 579,861 tests have been carried out since the outbreak of the disease, according to the ministry's statement.
