Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police is augmenting its available resources to serve people in an efficient way during the 21-day nationwide lockdown period to contain the spread of coronavirus infection in the State. As people are not able to visit the police station and reach senior police officials in view of the lockdown restrictions, Odisha police has strengthened its phone-based system to redress their grievances.
As per the directions of Odisha DGP Abhay, a robust system of over 500 Helpline numbers has been developed to facilitate people to lodge their grievances.
At present, each district police headquarters has a functional police control room with one or more phone lines which are being used by people to seek urgent help. The number of personnel and phone lines have been reportedly increased following the increase in the volume of work.
Odisha Police is taking extensive help of social media to publicise district-wise Control Room numbers, the number of police stations and CUG cell numbers of concerned officers.

Clear instructions have been issued to officials to ensure that the phones are functioning and various personnel entrusted with the job attend the calls and take appropriate action at police station levels.
District SPs and DCPs are personally reviewing the functioning of phone based redressal of public grievance at police station and district levels.
Though passes have been issued to people engaged in essential services, there is a need of proper coordination among people, police and other departments to ensure strict implementation of the lockdown guidelines.
The helpline numbers of Odisha police are likely to help the thousands of people who need the assistance of cops in case of any emergency situation.
On the other hand, senior police officials informed that adequate measures have been made to ensure strict implementation of the lockdown guidelines.
Later in the day, DGP directed all district Ss.P and DCsP to re-visit the deployment of police on the streets, so as to ensure that all police personnel on street duty get one day rest during a week and are not for more than 8 hours duty a day during Coronavirus lockdown.
