The global number of COVID-19 cases has increased to over 7.6 million, while the death toll surged past 425,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Saturday morning, the overall number of cases stood at 7,632,377, while the deaths increased to 425,385, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
The US continues with the world's highest number of confirmed cases and deaths at 2,046,643 and 114,672, respectively, according to the CSSE.
In terms of cases, Brazil comes in the second place with 828,810 infections.
This was followed by Russia (510,761), India (297,535), the UK (294,402), Spain (243,209), Italy (236,305), Peru (214,788), France (193,220), Germany (187,226), Iran (182,525), Turkey (175,218), Chile (160,846), Mexico (139,196), Pakistan (125,933) and Saudi Arabia (119,942), the CSSE figures showed.
Regarding fatalities, Brazil has overtaken the UK in the second position with 41,828 COVID-19 deaths, which also accounts for the highest number of fatalities in Europe.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the UK (41,566 ), Italy (34,223), France (29,377), Spain (27,136) and Mexico (16,448).
Italy's active COVID-19 infections drop below 30,000
Italy registered a total of 236,305 coronavirus cases, as the number of active infections dropped below 30,000 for the first time since March 18, according to the latest official data.
More specifically, there were 28,997 positive cases across the country, with a decrease of 1,640 cases compared to Thursday, the Civil Protection Department said in its daily bulletin on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported.
Of all those infected, some 227 patients are currently in intensive care, down by nine patients on a daily basis.
Another 3,893 are hospitalized with symptoms (down by 238), and 24,877 people -- or 86 percent of all those infected -- are isolated at home without symptoms or with mild symptoms.
The total number of people cured since the official outbreak of the pandemic here on February 21 grew to 173,085 after 1,747 new recoveries were registered.
Some 56 new fatalities were also registered over the 24 hours, which brought the country's death toll to 34,223.
France's coronavirus death toll touches 29,374
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed another 28 lives in French hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's overall tally to 29,374, the Health Ministry announced.
To date, 11,124 people remain hospitalized in France for coronavirus infection, including 879 in intensive care, 24 less compared to Thursday, said the ministry in a statement on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported.
With 226 new COVID-19 cases Israel's tally touches 18,795
The Israeli Ministry of Health reported 226 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally to 18,795.
The number of death cases still stood at 300, and the number of patients in serious condition remained 34, out of 118 patients currently hospitalized, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.
The number of recovered cases rose to 15,310, with 60 new recoveries, while the number of active cases rose to 3,185.
Iraq records 1,095 new COVID-19 cases, 17,770 in total
The Iraqi Health Ministry recorded 1,095 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 17,770 in the country.
According to a statement of the ministry on Friday, 39 more people died from the coronavirus during the day, bringing the death toll to 496, while 6,868 patients have recovered, Xinhua news agency reported.
The new cases were recorded after 9,757 test kits were used across the country during the past 24 hours, and a total of 349,625 tests have been conducted since the outbreak of the disease, the statement added.
Ukraine's first lady contracts coronavirus
Olena Zelenska, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, announced via her official social media account that she has tested positive for COVID-19 virus.
"I feel good, but I am in outpatient treatment, isolated from other family members not to endanger them," the first lady said on her Instagram on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported.
According to local media, Zelensky and his two children had also been tested for the virus, and their results were negative.
Zelenska said she does not know how she contracted COVID-19, as she tested negative at the beginning of June, and has followed all the quarantine rules of the health ministry, including wearing masks and gloves, and minimizing her number of contacts.
Noting that the danger of contracting the coronavirus is real despite the easing of some quarantine restrictions, Zelenska called on everyone to wear masks in public spaces.
A total of 29,753 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 870 deaths and 13,567 recoveries have been reported in Ukraine.
Over 6,000 new COVID-19 cases reported in Pak, death toll reaches 2,551
Pakistan's COVID-19 cases reached 132,405 after a record 6,472 new infections were detected, while 88 more people have succumbed to the coronavirus, pushing the death toll to 2,551, the health ministry said on Saturday.
The Ministry of National Health Services said a record 29,850 tests were done in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the country to 839,019.
"So far, 50,056 people have recovered across Pakistan, making it a significant count," it said.
There are no patients on ventilators in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Balochistan. As many as 420 ventilators out of a total 1,400 breathing devices allocated for COVID-19 are occupied across Pakistan, it said.
Out of the total 132,405 cases detected so far, Punjab has recorded 50,087. A total of 49,256 infections have been reported in Sindh, 16,415 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 7,866 in Balochistan, 7,163 in Islamabad, 1,044 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 574 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
At least 88 people have died in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 2,551, the ministry said.
There are 820 hospitals with COVID-19 facilities in the country and 8,559 patients are admitted across the country, while others are recuperating in self-isolation at homes, it added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan medical goods watchdog has approved the first indigenously made testing kit for the novel coronavirus.
