Expediting its inquiry into the alleged suicide of a female student and the subsequent alleged torture and misbehaviour against other Nepali students, Odisha’s government’s high-level committee has now summoned three more top officials from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University.

This comes a few days after KIIT founder and former BJD MP Achyuta Samanta was summoned for his personal appearance. The probe panel has now summoned the Director of Student Affairs, Director General of International Relations, and Director of Administration for questioning.

Students also summoned:

In addition to the three top officials, three other students of KIIT University have also been instructed to attend the session. The proceedings are set to take place at the state’s official guest facility. This committee's investigation aims to explore recent incidents linked to the university.

This summons comes amidst increased scrutiny over internal affairs at the institution. The meeting, confirmed for Monday, is expected to shed light on several key issues.

Three-member committee:

The three-member probe panel is headed by Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Satyabrata Sahu. The committee is mandated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the suicide, alleged high-handed action by the institute authority on Nepali students, reasons for issuing notice to only a specific group of students, and declaring the institute sine die for them.

The probe panel, which also comprises the secretaries of the higher education department and women and child development (WCD), had earlier visited the KIIT campus and held a discussion with the Nepali students who were mistreated by the staffers of the private institute.
