Mumbai: Using satellite technology to transmit first day-first show movies to 3000 network theatres, UFO Moviez India Ltd has bagged the Marico Innovation Foundation award for innovation in the business category.

UFO Moviez was recognized for the impact of its satellite-based technology solution, which enables movies to be transmitted first day-first show to millions in theatre complexes, even in tier II and tier III towns, a company statement said here.

UFO Moviez was acknowledged as a game-changer with its use of satellite technology, which not only cuts down on print costs, but also fights piracy and increases box-office collections.

Presently, UFO has a base of 2,880 digital screens (including 152 3D screens), spread in 1,300 cities in 28 states of India. Out of these, around 350 screens are in multiplexes (which constitutes over 30 percent of the multiplex population in the country) and the balance are single screen theatres. UFO has so far released 4,265 films in 30 languages and has conducted over 9.7 million shows till date.
