Keonjhar is reeling under shock as a major job scam has come to light, with the Keonjhar Town Police arresting the prime accused, Pramila Parida, in connection with the alleged fraudulent scheme promising jobs at the Keonjhar Medical College.
Acting swiftly, the police have taken her on a two-day remand to probe deeper into the case, which involves the embezzlement of lakhs of rupees under false pretenses.
Pramila Parida is accused of cheating several individuals by assuring them employment opportunities at the district’s premier healthcare institution. According to police sources, she allegedly charged lakhs from gullible candidates by promising them jobs. The scam reportedly involved at least one more accomplice, and both were arrested earlier this week.
“My son had paid Rs 50,000 and was assured of a job. But as nothing happened, he was very tensed,” alleged the mother of a deceased aspirant.
Search At Prime Accused’s Residence
A raid was conducted at her residence located in Amrut Vihar, from where the police have seized several crucial documents. These include job application forms, identity details of the victims, forged appointment letters, and transaction records. Investigating officials believe these documents will play a vital role in uncovering the full extent of the operation.
The police have also initiated verification of her financial assets. According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), lockers in various banks under her name and gold ornaments stored with Muthoot Finance will be examined. Additionally, a roadside eatery (dhaba) owned by Pramila is now under investigation, suspected of being used for laundering the scammed money.
Keonjhar Sadar SDPO Sudarsan Gangei said, “Among the two accused Pramila Parida and her associate Bubhan, we have brought the key accused Pramila on remand and searched her house in the presence of Magistrate. Various documents have been seized and the bank manager has been asked to take appropriate action regarding the seizure of assets in her locker.”
Sources suggest that certain employees of the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital may also be complicit in the fraud. While the police investigation is underway, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has assured that action will be taken against any hospital staff found to be involved after a detailed internal inquiry.
CDMO Kishore Prusty said, “We have come across irregularities in posting in the health department. Such issues are subject to proper investigation which can reveal the truth.”
This incident has raised serious concerns about employment-related scams and the misuse of reputed institutions' names to exploit public trust. As the investigation continues, authorities hope to uncover the full network behind this fraudulent operation and ensure that justice is delivered to the victims.
