In a significant development that has sent shockwaves through the enforcement agencies, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested Chintan Raghuvanshi, a Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh in Bhubaneswar. The arrest was made following a sustained 12-hour interrogation that began on Thursday.

According to CBI sources, Raghuvanshi was allegedly involved in manipulating a high-profile mining case. He was reportedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 20 lakh as the first installment of a total Rs 50 lakh bribe deal.

Following his interrogation, he was taken for a mandatory medical examination at Capital Hospital today, after which the formal arrest was made.

The case pertains to alleged corruption in the closure of investigations related to mining operations. The CBI had been monitoring Raghuvanshi’s activities for some time based on credible intelligence inputs. It is believed that he was negotiating a deal with some mine operators to settle the matter in exchange for a hefty bribe.

While the arrest of such a senior ED officer raises serious concerns about corruption within premier investigative bodies, both the CBI and ED have so far refrained from issuing official statements regarding the incident.
